Every filtration system has a service life on its cartridges or membrane — a carbon filter left in place well past its rated capacity stops removing chlorine and can, in the worst case, become a place for bacteria to grow rather than a barrier against it. Whatever system gets installed, get clear guidance on replacement intervals up front, and actually stick to them — a neglected filter is worse than no filter at all in some cases.
